Jebel Toubkal photograph
Trip to Mount Toubkal

A strenuous, guided two-day hike to North Africa’s highest mountain, Toubkal. You can do this with no mountaineering training but it is still very hard work and we would recommend only tackling this if you are experienced as a trekker.

Itinerary:

Day 1 – Toubkal Refuge via Sidi Chamharouch

After breakfast, we’ll head to the village of Aremd, via the Mizane Valley and then trek east to the high. rocky cliffs above the valley. From there, we aim for Sidi Chamharouch (2,350m and the shrine of the ‘King Of Jinn’s’) and then on to the snowline on the Toubkal Plateau where we’ll make camp for the night (at 3,206m). The day should be around 5 or 6 hours of walking and you should have some opportunities to explore the local area too.

We will spend the night either at the Toubkal or Mouflon Refuge. We will provide picnic lunch and dinner.

Day 2 – Mount Toubkal, Imlil

To get to the summit of Toubkal, we’ll start early in the morning and head up to the south cirque, crossing the mountain stream above the refuge. To get to the top, we’ll need to cross scree and make our way steadily up to 4,167m.

The way up may be hard but the views are well worth it. You can see across the Plain Of Marrakech to the High Atlas and the Sahara Desert.

When we’re ready we’ll carefully head back down the mountain and make our way back to Imlil via Aremd. The day will involve around 8-10 hours of walking and trekking.

Breakfast and picnic lunch are included.

Remember, the itinerary is meant as a guide and is not absolute. Timings may vary, depending on weather, individual fitness and other factors. Also make sure to come prepared. This is the mountains after all. If you’re not sure, just ask here at the hotel and we will help you.
